Diving
The waters of the Strait of Gibraltar harbor very important natural values, which is why discoveries of new species for science are still taking place in this area. More than 1,900 species of marine flora and fauna have been recorded, the most frequent and important being the loggerhead turtle, the dolphin or the porpoise. In this place, ideal for diving, you can enjoy extensive seaweed meadows, indicators of the environmental quality of the water, with the kelp standing out for its spectacular size.
Tarifa is at the mercy of the currents provided by the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, which keep the water clean and allow the development of a large number of species.
In it, is the Island of Tarifa, within the Natural Park of the Strait, where divers of all levels can enjoy the best dives in the area.

For the most expert divers, we have other dive sites such as San Andrés, Punta Marroquí (Mediterranean and Atlantic), as well as a series of sunken ships If you are over 12 years old, after a short theoretical talk, you can go to experience the sensation of breathing underwater and be able to see species such as octopus, cuttlefish or scorpion fish a few meters away. During this experience you will be able to reach a depth maximum of 6 meters.
If you liked this first experience and want to obtain your first diver’s qualification, the next step is to take the Open Water Diver course, for which the requirements will be to have turned 14 years old and to have passed an examination carried out by a sports doctor. This course consists of a theoretical part and a practical part. The theory consists of watching a video, reading a manual, and passing a final exam. The practical part is divided into one or two confined water sessions (shallow water, from the beach) and four open water dives, these dives are made from a boat and the maximum depth will be 18 meters.
From there you will be able to level up with the following courses, all of them endorsed by the PADI Association, the most international diving association.
